ASU members like you provide essential services that will need to continue during the Covid-19 pandemic. Young people in youth services will still need care. Women leaving violence will still need support. People with a disability will still need services. Right now the demand for community services will be greater than ever. We know you need to focus on this right now.
As always, community and disability workers are here to help in times of crisis. We played such a vital role during the bushfires and are continuing to do so through the recovery. We will be called on again now.
This is the reason we are working so hard to Save Equal Pay. We cannot allow the Federal Government to walk away from the community sector. We cannot allow over $500 million to be cut from our sector.
The rallies have been postponed but the campaign to Save Equal Pay continues.
We must unite and let the government know our sector is vital, especially in times of crisis.
You can do one simple thing now to help Save Equal Pay - take a selfie.
- Download this poster and take a selfie with it
- Post it to social media using the hashtag #SaveEqualPay
- Email a copy so that we can include it in our photo petition to politicians
In 2012, Australian Services Union members won 23% to 45% pay rises. The Fair Work Commission ordered that Equal Pay increases on the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award (SCHADS Award) wages be phased in over eight years - with the final instalment in December 2020.
It was a historic victory for all workers in our sector - thanks to ASU members.
Twice every year since 2012 our rates of pay in the community and disability sector have increased. Members are between $200 and $594 better off per week.
The Federal Government has not guaranteed that the funding will go into the Equal Pay Fund to keep the pay increases. Services and jobs are under threat.
Bring your families, friends, clients, and co-workers. Everyone is invited. We need a strong community and disability sector in Wollongong and this starts with ensuring funding into the future.
We fought to win Equal Pay, we will fight to protect it.
Join us to save Equal Pay.
