Union members stop degree fee hike

ASU members have been campaigning since June to stop the fee hike on social and community services degrees since the Federal Government announced a fee hike of 113%.

We signed petitions, called MPs, held workplace meetings and ASU members from around the country met with over 40 politicians from across the political spectrum to explain why increasing fees was a bad idea.

The government listened and we've won our campaign!

ASU Secretary, Natalie Lang spoke to the Sydney Morning Herald and said, "A university degree is now mandatory for many frontline roles. Women in this sector undertake degrees to advance their career or area of specialisation. Increasing the fees by 113 per cent for workers to undergo those qualifications is going to be a major barrier for the pipeline of supply of these essential workers."

Thank you to every ASU member who spoke to their MP, signed a petition and took action to make sure frontline, essential workers in social and community services are respected and valued.

We will continue to push the government to ensure all relevant social and community services degrees are included in the Professional Pathway Social Work.
