An independent wage system
The ASU continues the fight against the Coalition Government’s restrictive Wages Policy. On forming government in 2011 the Liberal-National Coalition passed a series of regressive laws and regulations removing the role of the independent umpire, the NSW Industrial Relations Commission, in determining fair and reasonable wages and conditions for state government workers. Simple decisions about wage increases have become a political football - particularly over the absorption of superannuation guarantee increases.
Most recently the 1 July 2015 increase was originally set at 2.05%. However the Federal Government has frozen the increases in employer superannuation contributions. Unions are now proposing that the one on July 2015 be increased to the wages policy of 2.5%.
The ASU is continuing to campaign for the restoration of an independent wage system, but we can’t win without members. As a democratic union it is your input that determines the direction of our union, so get involved today.
