Edna Ryan Women in Union Day

Edna Ryan challenged the status quo and as a union activist she agitated for the abolishment of gender wage discrimination in her workplace - the first equal pay case. Her success spurred her to fight for other women.  She spent decades championing the equal pay cause through her work with the Women's Electoral Lobby. She truly was an equal pay warrior.

She firmly believed that women could achieve change only by taking up the cause themselves, and to do so must be armed in the arts of politics and activism.

It's in this tradition that the Australian Services Union in conjunction with the Edna Ryan Awards Committee have developed the Edna Ryan Women in Union Day.

The day is an opportunity to develop practical skills as union women to take back to work, as well as an exchange of ideas and knowledge.
