Bad rostering practices are a common problem across our sector, like insufficient breaks that breach the Award minimum standard and result in underpayments. This was the reality for workers at Kurrajong Waratah Disability Services- until they unionised.
After joining the ASU and electing delegates, Kurrajong members were able to negotiate with management to re-write all the rosters so that everyone is treated fairly and minimum roster standards are met.
Members also ensured they were compensated for past rosters which breached Award guidelines and the breaks workers are entitled to. This resulted in many members receiving thousands of dollars in compensation payments!
Congratulations to all the members at Kurrajong Waratah for building a strong union at work and winning better rosters (and back pay) that work for everyone.
