Many ASU members work in services supporting women and children leaving domestic violence or many have experienced domestic violence themselves. The recent announcements by the Federal and State Governments to increase funding to prevent domestic violence have been welcome by many members and the ASU.
We will continue to call for paid domestic and family violence leave as a universal right for all workers and for more funding for women-led women’s services like women’s refuges, women’s legal services, health services and financial aid and assistance. But these are very welcome first steps to do something more and meaningful to address the scourge of domestic violence.
