This event has been postponed due to COVID-19. ASU members provide essential services that need to continue during the COVID-19 pandemic. Right now the demand for your services are greater than ever. We will have other actions for ASU members to take part in the campaign. Contact your union organiser, Divina, at [email protected] to get involved.
In 2012, Australian Services Union members won 23% to 45% pay rises. The Fair Work Commission ordered that Equal Pay increases on the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award (SCHADS Award) wages be phased in over eight years - with the final instalment in December 2020.
It was a historic victory for all workers in our sector - thanks to ASU members.
Twice every year since 2012 our rates of pay in the community and disability sector have increased. Members are between $200 and $594 better off per week.
But now Equal Pay is under threat.
When ASU members won Equal Pay, state and federal governments set aside special funds to cover our new higher rates of pay. This guaranteed funding until December 2020.
Now it's clear that many government departments have not budgeted to lift the funding of programs into the future. We are approaching a funding cliff that would slash jobs and services.
ASU delegates from across Australia are coming to Canberra to lobby Federal MPs to fight to fund Equal Pay. We are holding a rally to show support to the ASU lobbying delegation and send a message to Parliament House: we need to Save Equal Pay.
Bring your families, friends, clients, and co-workers. Everyone is invited. We need a strong community and disability sector in Canberra and this starts with ensuring funding into the future.
We fought to win Equal Pay, we will fight to protect it.
Join us to save Equal Pay.
