WHAT WORKERS DESERVE!
Procedural fairness underpins our system of justice. Yet, procedural fairness doesn’t appear to be in Sydney Water’s lexicon.
On the 1st November, Sydney Water summarily terminated the employment of three workers and “regressed” the employment of another based on nothing more than hearsay.
The union has made several attempts to obtain the corporations evidence or witness statements which assert the three workers were in breach of their obligations but Sydney Water has stalled and prevaricated at every opportunity. The union has made itself available but NO evidence has been provided despite numerous requests.
Sydney Water prides itself on being a “family friendly” workplace. Its values are to respect people and be open and honest. The corporation is not helping vindicate these values by promptly terminating workers before they have the opportunity to go through a transparent and open process allowing them to comment. Sydney Water should act in good faith and without bias, particularly when a persons interests will be affected by their decisions and actions. As the old adage goes “justice should be done and be seen to be done.”
The ASU will fight this injustice all the way.
