Over the last month ASU organisers and staff communicators have been holding consultation meetings with all service group employees across NSW. These meetings have been very well attended and have produced some very useful discussions and feedback. At this first round of meetings, workers have been asked to discuss issues with the current EBA and to complete a staff survey about wages and conditions at UnitingCare Children Young People and Family Services. Hundreds of surveys were completed and returned to the ASU to enable us to build our claim for bargaining.
During consultation meetings employees have also been asked to join the ASU to resource the campaign and build our strength to win you the conditions that YOU want! A large number of workers have taken the first step to ensuring that we have strength as we go into negotiations by joining the ASU.
Endorsing The Claim – It’s time to VOTE! – Round 1.
From the responses in the hundreds of surveys we have now built the first draft of our bargaining claim. This is included below. As part of our commitment to consulting with members, every workplace now needs to hold a meeting to discuss and vote on ALL of the issues in the claim. These meetings need to be held and endorsements returned to the ASU by COB on Monday September 8th.

Fax back endorsements to: (02) 9698 8936At the meeting all workers are invited to attend and discuss the claim however only financial members of the ASU can vote. Any worker who wishes to join the union at the meeting may also vote on the claim. Their completed membership forms will need to be returned to the ASU with the endorsed claim. Each workplace need only complete one endorsed claim and return this to the ASU.
What Can You Do Help Get The Agreement That YOU Want?
Building the claim is only the first step. We still need to build our strength as a collective of workers, to get the agreement that we want and win in negotiations. This means that we need to build the Union in our workplace. Please ensure that you take the following steps to build our strength to win.
- Speak to your co workers about the ASU’s Claim for the agreement.
- Hold a meeting in your workplace to allow all Union members to vote on the claim.
- Join the union.
- Encourage others in your workplace to also join the union.
