Sydney Water EBA Campaign

I am very pleased to inform you that negotiations late yesterday and this morning have resulted in an “in principle” Agreement between the ASU and Sydney Water. We have made significant progress and Sydney Water have agreed to settle nearly all of our outstanding claims in our favour.

The next steps are:

  1. There will be a meeting of the ASU Water Committee of Management tomorrow to consider the Agreement, should they recommend support;
  2. There will be a PAID MASS MEETING of all ASU members

Wednesday

25th November

12:30pm

Parramatta Stadium

At this meeting, your Negotiators will explain the Agreement, you will be able to ask questions and vote on whether or not the ASU should accept the Agreement and then members will cast their vote in the Sydney Water organised ballot. Please leave in time to be there by the 12:30pm kick-off.

Key points of the proposed Agreement are:

  • 4% per year pay increases, no strings attached, no performance pay
  • Competencies only introduced by agreement from an affected work group and many extra protections built in, including no disadvantage to employees
  • Redundancy pay and all current redundancy entitlements included in the agreement
  • RDOs protected
  • Increased maternity leave to 18 weeks
  • Increase partners leave to 6 weeks
  • Timeframe for completion of Civil Maintenance job review of pay rates, will any outcome appealable to the Industrial Commission and back paid to 1 July 2009
  • More Senior Managers covered by Agreement and more rights protected
  • No forced Christmas shut-down
  • Option to cash out annual leave
  • Protection of Deep Ocean Outfall special leave rights
  • Review of rest breaks after call outs
  • Consultation right protected
  • Expanded consultation rights for policy
  • Outsourcing protections maintained
  • Delegates rights protected
  • Protection given the unique circumstances for treatment ops workers for changes to working hours

We are very pleased with the outcome and I want to congratulate all members for the unity they have shown throughout this campaign. I hope to see everyone at Parramatta Stadium next Wednesday.

Yours in Union,
