The Story So Far-Vinnies slow to fix long standing problems. Members will recall that in October 2007 the ASU and the St Vincent de Paul Society signed an “in principle” agreement that the parties would work together to resolve various outstanding workplace concerns and would begin the process for negotiating the Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) for SACS workers.
Despite the ASU’s many attempts to resolve the outstanding issues with IR staff at Vinnies, many of these issues remain unresolved. Accordingly the ASU has now sought a meeting directly with the CEO to settle these outstanding issues. This meeting is set for August 20th at 2pm at the ASU office. The ASU will prepare a full report for members after the meeting. What Has Not Been Fixed? Workplace Concerns: - Letters of appointment for employees
- So called ‘non-award’ employees being put on the Award
- Ensuring that Award conditions are provided to all employees
- Payment to employees who have not been paid in accordance with the Award
- Appropriate consultation with staff and the ASU before any organisational change is proposed by the Society
- Clarity regarding the employer-employee relationship
- ASU being invited to staff inductions and allowed reasonable access to workplaces
Time to Begin Bargaining The Society has given the ASU an undertaking that it will be ready to begin bargaining this month. Vinnies has promised that Award wages and conditions will be the minimum for any enterprise agreement. It’s time for us now to get ready to bargain. To do that we need to have a delegates and members meeting to plan the way forward. It is imperative that EVERY workplace is involved – so make sure at least one member is there from your workplace.
Please ensure that all of your workmates get a copy of this newsletter and are a member of the Union. To RSVP and for further details, you can contact Adrienne at the ASU on 9310 4000 or
