STA - Senior and Salaried Officer's Campaign

STA senior and salaried officer negotiations continuing

Your Union is currently involved in negotiations with State Transit Authority (STA) about the “Senior and Salaried Officer’s Enterprise Agreement 2006” which expires on 31 December 2008.

The ASU and other unions recently held five meetings with union members to seek their view on what pay increase they are seeking and what conditions they are willing to negotiate.

STA management initially provided the ASU and other unions with a list of saving initiatives that it requested we consider to obtain a salary increase of more than 2.5% per annum.  Under the NSW Government’s Wages Policy any salary increase of more than 2.5% per annum is tied to employee related cost savings and reforms.

At present the ASU and other unions has requested that STA management provide cost savings on the following:

• Targeted reduction in sick leave usage;
• Reducing annual leave accrual from 40 to 30 days;
• Clearance of public holidays accrued prior to 2006; and
• Reducing excess travelling time costs.

log of claims

The ASU and other unions have identified a number of work reforms that are to be introduced in the next few years and which could potentially lead to savings for STA.  We are requesting that STA take these into account.  The work reforms we identified include:

• Ticketing changes;
• More effective use of long term contractors;
• More effective E-Recruitment; and
• IT restructuring.

In addition the ASU and other unions have put in a log of claims which include:

• A 5% pay increase for the life of the Consent Award;
• Increase in paid maternity leave to 14 weeks;
• The adoption of two weeks paternity leave; and
• A series of measures designed to improve STA internal polices and operations.

The ASU is also involved in a working party where the two relevant awards and the current Enterprise Agreement are consolidated into a Consent Award.

The ASU and other unions are continuing to negotiate with STA on a weekly basis to finalise the negotiations.
