Members have voted by over 96% for industrial action. Your campaign committee has endorsed a series of escalating actions to put ongoing pressure on RailCorp and the Government.
The first actions have been designed to minimise disruption on the travelling public. We want the public to understand that we are only taking action because the Government and RailCorp have forced us into this position.
Thursday 5 August
On Thursday 5 August all members rostered on for work at Flemington, Hornsby, Mortdale, Sydenham and Eveleigh are being asked to cease work, swipe off and walk off the job at 10am for four hours. Union buses will be at these Depots at 10am to take members to a meeting at Burwood Park (where a BBQ will be provided). Buses will then be available to take members back to work to recommence work at 2pm (don’t forget to swipe on!).
All members from offices in Burwood and Granville are being asked to cease work and walk off the job at 11am for two hours. They will join the meeting at Burwood Park before returning to work at 1pm. All members rostered to work who take part in this action are only protected for these times, and will not be paid. All other members who are not rostered are invited and encouraged to join the meeting and BBQ at Burwood Park at 11am.
This is only the beginning of a sustained industrial campaign.
Friday 5 August
This action will be followed on Friday 6th August by a stop work by members on the Lithgow to Blacktown shut down. Members are being asked to cease all work related to this Possession from 10pm on Friday to 6am on Saturday morning.
Monday 9 August
On Monday 9th August members on stations will be will be asked to participate in a 24-hour Fare Free Day to the public as a way of recognising that future action may affect rail services.
All members will have the opportunity to participate in some form of action. This is only the beginning! Further actions will be scheduled of different lengths and impacts. It is extremely important that the pressure is maintained on the Government and RailCorp to negotiate a decent outcome. If you have any questions please contact your Union delegate or office.
Important Note
Members who take part in stop work action (that is protected) will NOT be paid. Members who participate in future work bans (that is protected action) where they only perform part of their job, will only be paid for the part of their job they perform.
