“It is not good enough to just give our money away.”
Hundreds of RailCorp workers have stood up in meetings across the state to say that RailCorp’s actions in giving away the savings made by workers is not good enough. This money must go towards paying the workers that achieved the savings.
30 meetings of combined rail union (CRU) members have already been held and are on-going this week. What they have said:
“We believe that there have been savings made during the life of the current Agreement and Railcorp promised these savings would go towards our pay rise this time. We call on RailCorp to honour the commitment they made to us previously.
We the members resolve to escalate the campaign to see a fair pay rise. We endorse the CRU to take all and any actions necessary to have this resolved.”
The fight continues....
More CRU meetings are scheduled in coming weeks to talk through what RailCorp has put on the table. One of the big issues that is hotting up is our rights in redundancy.
Right now we have our redundancy entitlements in policy. These rights include indefinite salary maintenance, no forced redundancy and the amount of money we would get if we take voluntary redundancy. They can be changed at any time without our consent. And right now RailCorp is proposing to change them.
Can we protect it?
Yes we can! If we can get our current redundancy policy incorporated into our collective agreement it means it can NEVER be changed without our consent. At Sydney Water they had the same situation, all of their redundancy protections were in policy, able to be changed at any time. As part of the negotiations for their new award last year they fought hard and succeeded in getting their rights protected in their agreement. But they had to fight hard, they had to come together and show management that this was a priority to them and one they were prepared to fight for. If they can do it, we can too. Protecting our rights is the best way of protecting our jobs, income, family and lifestyle.
Railcorp members - come to a meeting get involved in protecting our future!
