Qantas announces joint venture with China Eastern

Just weeks after it abandons attempts to set up a new premium airline in south-east Asia yesterday Qantas announced a joint venture with low cost carrier China Eastern to operate out of Hong Kong. Though despite footing the $96 million bill Qantas will handover naming rights to its subsidiary Jetstar with the new airline flying under the banner of Jetstar Hong Kong. It’s just another example of big brother dishing out cash with no apparent reward or benefit to building a stronger Qantas.

Qantas Announces More Job Cuts

On the day it announces a half yearly profit of $202m Qantas reveals plans to cut 500 jobs, many amongst ASU ranks. To insult to injury though Qantas management had to time to talk with politicians, loyal Qantas employees and their respective unions are advised through the media.

Qantas EBA9 voting underway

ASU members across the country have been holding meetings as part of the union’s internal process of approving ASU Qantas EBA 9 (EBA 9). These meetings were conducted to see whether or not ASU members accepted the offer. The outcome of these meetings is that ASU members have now officially approved EBA 9.

Urgent meeting with Qantas on EBA 9- THIS FRIDAY

In a major development Qantas has asked for a meeting with the ASU Qantas EBA 9 National Negotiating Team (NNT).

The meeting has been scheduled for Friday 18th March 2011 in Melbourne. Your NNT have had many meetings with Qantas over many months- but continue to want to reach an agreement if possible.

Your NNT hope to be able to report back on progress after Friday’s meeting.
