changes to Roads and Maritime Services

This week staff were briefed about major changes to Roads and Maritime Services that will be happening over the coming months. The ASU, along with the other RMS unions, were briefed at the same time and provided with exactly the same information.
There are clearly a number of very significant issues caused by this restructure but at the moment there is very little information.
At the moment, we know that your NSW Maritime Enterprise Agreement will continue and your EBA has locked in a 4% pay increase for this year. We also know that a RMS management want to have a new RMS Award or Agreement in place by July 1 this year. It is unclear what effect this will have once our Agreement expires. Rest assured that the ASU will not agree to any changes that disadvantage members.
The ASU will continue represent all our NSW Maritime members in RMS, no matter where you sit in the structure. We will fight for your interests and keep campaigning for your rights at work.
To get on the front foot, the ASU is organising a full members meeting next week to discuss these changes and any other issues you wish to raise. Your delegates will then take these issue to the first meeting of the RMS Joint Consultative Committee (or JCC) – a new peak discussion group between the RMS unions and management. The first meeting of the JCC is scheduled for February 27. The date and time for the members meeting will be shortly and details will be sent to members later this week.
It will be important for union members to remain active and united over the coming months as we deal with these significant changes and defend our rights and conditions.
