Protected Industrial Action Ballot Meeting Print
Thursday, 12 June 2008 00:00

Meetings of all IBM Flightdeck workers will be held decide whether to take industrial action to get IBM Australia to come to the bargaining table to negotiate a collective agreement for all IBM Flightdeck employees.

The meetings will take place at 5.30pm and 6.30pm on Monday 23 June 2008 at the Castle Hill Country Club, Spurway Drive, Baulkham Hills.

Proposed Motion:             “That ASU members at the IBM Flightdeck, National Operations Centre, NSW authorise the ASU to apply for an order to hold a ballot to take industrial action.”

Monday 23 June at 7.30pm will be the deadline for Flightdeck workers to join the ASU and be entitled to vote in the ballot.

IBM Australia have so far refused to meet to negotiate with Flightdeck workers in the ASU and have indicated that they aren’t willing to consider the reasonable demands of Flightdeck workers. While IBM have organised roundtable meetings over the last few weeks to listen to the concerns of Flightdeck workers so far they haven’t been willing to address our real concerns about pay rises or the issues arising from the closure of the Pyrmont site.

Flightdeck employees have indicated to IBM that they want to negotiate an Enterprise Bargaining Agreement that will:

·         Provide regular pay rises for all Flightdeck employees;

  • Provide pay equity for all Flightdeck employees;
  • Provide a travel allowance for all Flightdeck employees;
  • Provide a fair redundancy and retrenchment policy for all Flightdeck employees;
  • Provide paid shift handover periods for all Flightdeck employees;
  • Provide fair access to leave entitlements and time off in lieu for all Flightdeck employees;
  • Protect shift penalties for all Flightdeck employees;
  • Protect existing hours of work and shift rotations for all Flightdeck employees.
  • Allow all Flightdeck employees the option to work from home;

It is vitally important that all Flightdeck workers attend this meeting. We will need the majority of workers acting together in order to obtain an Enterprise Bargaining Agreement that ensures a better deal for all Flightdeck workers.
