John started out as a Youth Worker and is now a team leader.
Here we go. Here is a bit about me. I’m John Dangas, I'm 43 years old. I have been working in the youth and family field for more than 21yrs. I have a degree in Social Science from Newcastle University. I also have a Graduate Diploma in Family Therapy.
I have worked here and abroad. I worked for six years in Adelaide doing youth and group work and also worked in a senior role for an array of Youth Services, both government and non-government. I spent eight years in London working in youth refuges and also as an Educational Social Worker at an all girls Catholic school in East London where I worked with the students, families and the school staff.
I'm currently employed as an Acting Manager in a Youth Service. I started as a Youth and Family Worker then I became a team leader. Throughout my career I have undertaken lots of training in all areas of community welfare and feel that's its essential to always gain new skills.
I believe in the importance of having a balance in life and looking after myself. I'm an extremely active person who regularly participates in sports, music (listening and playing the guitar) and socialising with all my fabulous family members, friends and loved ones - you know who you are).
I hold strongly the concepts of social justice and equality for all irrespective of culture, age, gender and sexuality. I am very passionate about my work and its importance in our society. I also am very concerned with how our governments value our services and I am reminded every time I look at our pay-slips. We work with the most important thing in life… people and this needs to be respectfully recognised by all including our governments.
