Civic recently proposed putting their Collective Agreement (CA) to a vote of workers. This action was an attempt to lock Civic workers out of a new improved Award and lock you into a WorkChoices based CA that stripped pay and conditions.
Union Members intervened and challenged Civic’s claim of offering you a “chance to have your say about your employment conditions.” The “chance” came in the form of an unfair voting process on an unfair agreement. Workers across Civic considered the “chance” they had and with the help of their Union forced Civic to abandon their process. Now What? Civic will try to get this CA through again... and we need to be ready. Mike said in his notice that he wants you to be “fully informed about the process and benefit of a Collective Agreement”. The ASU has: - Kept you informed and will continue to keep you informed.
- Told you that there is NO BENEFIT on offer for you in this CA.
Your Union is your voice and has nothing to hide. Be Prepared, Be Alert, Not Alarmed! We need to be organised. Mike has asked you to read the CA – Better yet – read our comparison – check out www.asumembers.org.au. In a nutshell: YOU GET NOTHING! Nothing better than what you have now – nothing in the life of the agreement and WORSE than that they throw in some tricky things that could see Civic workers get LESS than others doing the same job! Civic is going to come at us again – we need to be ready. Come to the Civic Workers meeting on Monday at either 10am or 2pm. Meet in the rear car park at Camellia Gardens. You need every workplace and group of workers to be represented. Make SURE at least one person from you work comes. You NEED to be in the know. Get involved now, so we are ready! How? Get informed, talk to your workmates, join the union, volunteer to spread the news – there is so much to do, and so much at stake!
