CIVIC Certified Agreement

What has Civic got to hide?

On January 14 Mike Fitze wrote to workers telling them that Civic was putting their CA to the vote. In that letter he said that this was “your chance to have your say, about your employment conditions.”

What chance do you REALLY have?

  • Civic is going to put your voting info in your pay slip at head office on Friday the 13th (maybe there is a message in that!) and expects you to return your vote to head office by Monday the 16th!
  • We KNOW that most workers do not get their pay slip until the following week or later.
  • We KNOW that many workers will not be rostered on or have an opportunity to get to the office on the Monday.

What are we doing?

  • On Thursday January 29 we wrote to Mike about the proposed vote and asked for a response within 24 hours. Civic have not responded.
  • Today (Tuesday 3 Feb) we have written to Mike again. This is what we want:
  1. Appointment of an independent organisation to conduct the ballot.
  2. Extension of the opening period of the ballot – this should be a minimum of 7 days  – for example opening the ballot on Friday 13th February 2009 and closing the ballot at close of business on Friday 20th January 2009.
  3. A secure ballot – locked ballot boxes in each workplace, including all group homes.
  4. The presence of an ASU scrutineer.
  • During discussions with workers we have found out that while most people want to vote NO, many people feel they are not being given a real chance to vote.
  • We are having discussions with lawyers and the Workplace Ombudsman. We are concerned that Civic is not giving workers a real chance to have a say.

What can you do?

  • Join YOUR Union to protect and improve all Civic Workers’ Pay and Conditions.
  • Post this Bulletin in your workplace and make sure everyone sees it.
