Negotiations continued at Canon Australia for a collective agreement for Technical Consultants. The latest meeting was scheduled for two days. As a result of unforeseen circumstances Canon management called the meeting to an end before any negotiation had commenced on the second day.
What was negotiated?
Choice in transmission of Business:
Monday 25/05/09 saw negotiations focus on our claim for choice in the event of a transmission of any part of Canon business.
Your Reps put to Canon a draft clause which would ensure Techs had a choice in the event of a transmission, not just a choice between accepting a job with the new business or a package but also a choice of whether you would have your paid entitlements paid out or transfer them to the new business.
Canon considered these words and said they may consider the option of either cashing out paid entitlements or taking them with you - we let them know that you already have this option!
Canon management said no!
Fixing the different rates of pay for different States:
Canon management provided us with a confidential document which shows the current wage scale and the differential between the State groups. The differential is currently very small - a perfect time to remedy this inequity and ensure that all Techs are paid the same regardless of where they live.
Do you know what the actual mid point wage is? We do not understand why this information is not available to all Techs?
Canon management said no!
Across the board wage increase:
We have adjusted our claim (as advised in the last bulletin) in the attempt to get Canon management to the table on this claim and they won't budge. Just a reminder our claim is for $3000 per year across the board wage increase and the remainder of the 5.3% pool to be paid using the performance management system.
We have not been able to discuss the subsequent years wage increase. Canon say they will rely on market value or CPI. We say the 2nd and 3rd year must be $3000 across the board increase + market value or 5.3% pool whichever is greater. That is a repeat of year 1.
Canon management just say no!
What happens next?
There will be out of hours meetings to explain all of the details of the negotiations to date and what we need to do next. Contact your NCC Rep or ASU official for times and locations.
