As reported recently the ASU has lodged a dispute with Fair Work Australia (the new industrial relations commission) in relation to the part timers back pay claim. It is extremely disappointing that ASU members have had to revert to the powers of the independent umpire (FWA) in order to force Qantas to undertake the review of part timer hours as per the EBA- and make payment of all outstanding money. This is particularly so – given the company has already made repayments in Brisbane for exactly the same claim!
Disappointment aside we now have a date in front of FWA: 10am: 22nd March at 80 William St, Sydney
This is a conference- an attempt by FWA to broker a reasonable outcome before heading to a formal case. Our position is clear- we want Qantas to do the review of hours as per the EBA- and repay everyone entitled to back pay ASAP!
Some of your ASU delegates will be attending but if you are interested and able to attend please the ASU know (email

) - it would be great to have members come along to give FWA a better understanding of who is effected in this dispute and what quick resolution means.
The ASU will report back after the FWA conference. In the meantime if you have any questions please feel free to email Lauren Hutchins on
