A brief history

More than 100 000 Australians are members of the ASU. We are working men and women who have joined together in the ASU to win a better life at work. You meet us every day. We do important work in the public, private and community sectors.

There are now 14 branches of the ASU located across Australia. Other branches of the ASU are made up of workers in local government, clerical and energy industries.

The NSW and ACT (Services) Branch has existed since 1993. Workers from a number of small unions came together to build a stronger union - to help each other organise and win in the workplace.

We currently have more than 13,000 members of our Branch.
